Conversion and Change

Had several insights from my reading in the Book of Mormon this week. First I found it interesting that King Lamoni’s father was willing to give up ½ his kingdom for his life (Alma 20:21-23) but all his kingdom for salvation (Alma 22:15). I love the humility of Lamoni’s father when he says “ If there is a God, and If thou art God, wilt thou make thyself known unto me.”  And here is the real sacrifice. Giving up his kingdom would be hard but I think more doable then the next thing he says “ I will give away all my sins to know thee.” I love the harvest that Ammon and Aaron and the sons of Mosiah are able to have reap after much tribulation. Alma 23:6 says “the power of God working miracles in them” Conversion is the true miracle. I was listening to  “Whatsoever he saith of thee, do it” from conference. I loved the image of the Savior changing water to wine at the feast and my former idea of the truest miracles are really changing us into something other than the natural ma...

Grandma Kennard's birthday Fondue tradition 1 bottle sparkling white grape cider or apple cider (24 oz) 1 clove garlic 1/2 pound of Jarlsberg Swiss cheese (or Gruyere)  1/2 pound Emmentaler Swiss cheese 1/2 cup flour 1/8 tsp Nutmeg (more nutmeg than white pepper) Sprinkle of White pepper 3 loaves of crusty French bread Directions Grate all cheese into a big coat with flour to thicken fondue. Cut your french bread into 1 inch pieces with a crust on every piece so it can be dipped in cheese easily. Pour Martinelli's cider or grape into your fondue pot on medium heat on the stove. Stir continuously adding the cheese on handful at a time, letting it melt between handfuls. Sprinkle with nutmeg and white pepper eat and enjoy

Chicken Chalupas 1 Dozen flour tortillas 4 Chicken breasts cooked and cubed 1/2 cup chicken broth 2 cans cream of chicken soup 1 (4 oz) can chopped green chilies 4 green onions chopped 1 pint sour cream (can replace with plain yogurt for lower fat) 1 small call sliced black olives 1 lb Monterey Jack cheese grated 1 lb Chedder cheese grated Put tortillas out so they can warm to room temperature, they will roll more easily if they are warm Boil chicken breasts. Set aside 1/2 cup broth. Cool and debone and cube chicken. In a separate bowl, mix together the following ingredients. Soup, green chilies, green onions, sour cream, olives, chicken broth, and the Jack cheese. Take 2 cups of this and add to the cubed chicken to make filling for the chalupas Now put a 1/2 cup of the mixture on a tortilla  and roll up. Set rolled tortilla in a long greased casserole dish. Almond Joy Cookies Ingredients 1 cup butter 1 1/2 cups white sugar 1 1/2 cups brown sugar 4 eggs 3 teaspoons vanilla 4 1/2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 5 cups chocolate chips 2 cups sweetened coconut 2 cups chopped almonds Directions Pre-heat oven to 375. Lightly grease cookie sheets Combine dry ingredients, set aside In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugars together. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, stir in the vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients until well mixed then stir in the chocolate chips, coconut and almonds. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Ruthie's Sugar Cookies 1/2 Cup white sugar                               2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup soften butter                               1/2 salt 2 Eggs       Mix all of these with a wire whisk until well blended.  Add to mixture: 2 and a half cups flour,  Use hands to add last of flour if needed.  Place in bowl and refrigerate for a hour.   Then roll to 1/4 inch and cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
